Adoption Policies
- 1. The
Okefenokee Humane Society agrees to transfer legal
ownership of the animal to the adopter.
2. The
Okefenokee Humane Society agrees to provide for the
dogs a bath, dip, 5-way or 8-way vaccination, bordatella vaccination and treatment for intestinal
parasites.
3. The
Okefenokee Humane Society agrees to provide for the
cats an intestinal worm treatment, Eclipse 4 cat shot and flea spray.
4. The
Okefenokee Humane Society agrees that all dogs, puppies cats and kittens, five (5) months
old or older will be neutered/spayed within 30 days of leaving the Okefenokee Humane Society and the adopter
agrees that any animal that is
adopted under the age of five (5) months will be surgically
altered when it reaches this age.
5. The Okefenokee Humane
Society cannot adopt puppies or kittens under the age of
five (5) months to people who live outside of Ware County.
The Okefenokee Humane Society cannot adopt puppies
and kittens under the age of three (3) months. Puppies and
kittens must be a minimum of three (3) months old before
they can be adopted.
6. The
Okefenokee Humane Society agrees to refund all
adoption fees if the animal dies before the collection date.

The adopter agrees not to keep the animal on leased or rented
property where a "No Pets" policy is in force.

The adopter agrees to obey all applicable laws governing control and
custody of animals, including laws governing the
immunization of cats and dogs against rabies.

- 9. If adopting a dog,
the adopter agrees to never allow the pet to ride
in the back of an OPEN bed pick-up truck without a harness
and tie to secure the animal in.

The adopter agrees to provide all medical care and treatment
needed by the animal: this includes at least one
yearly medical check-up and vaccinations indicated by your
veterinarian and preventative heartworm medication.

- 11. The
adopter agrees to adopt the animal as a personal pet/companion,
i.e., NOT
as a gift, NOT
as a chained guard dog and NOT
to be used for research.

- 12. The
adopter agrees to give the Okefenokee Humane
Society permission to visit their premises to ensure that this
agreement is abided with if a reason dictates, (i.e.,
complaint by neighbor, request of police department, or need
of animal control officer).
